Aberdeen, Dundee, Stirling, Glasgow (Bothwell Street, North Rotunda, Byres Road, Candleriggs)
In 1998 Nicoll Russell Studios successfully completed the original Leonardo & Co Brew Bar, Bistro in Bothwell Street, Glasgow
The popularity of the venue prompted a brand 'roll out' which to date has resulted the opening of seven units in Scotland.
The corporate colourway places fused ambers, and polished coppers against white metal and navy blues. Classic renaissance tones contrast with contemporary hues. The theme is carried through with extensive areas of red oak panelling and timber floors complimenting the modernity of light fittings and other bespoke elements.
Clearly inspired by the American Brewhouse culture, large copper forms resembling brewing vessels act as a focus for the interiors and emphasise the brands passion for specialist beers.
Copious quantities of natural light flood the Leonardo & Co interiors by day. The inviting glow of the carefully selected wall and table lights animate by night and offer a warmth which brings with it a sense of relaxation.
The layouts are generally arranged to allow for varied seating options ranging from casual grazing at the bar to silver service in the intimacy of one of the fully upholstered booths.
The attention to detail and insistence on quality is carried through to rear of house facilities with large well equipped kitchens, caring staff and ample cellarage facilities. The customer toilets similarly are of high specification with a practical and appealing blend of slate coloured ceramic, copper, stainless steel and mirror.
The brand theme is clearly identified inside and out. Through a witty interpretation of Da Vinci's Last Supper, the logo succeeds in giving individuality and character to the brand. Local artists have created fine art pieces which decorate the wall of all the units and celebrate the sketches of Leonardo Da Vinci and illustrate the story behind the "family Leonardo", the fictional peasant European Family who are becoming increasingly famous for their Pizza Pasta fine wines and unusual beers.
