The £3.5million phased improvement scheme of this 35 bed private hospital involved initial studies to consider development options and strategic planning which would allow the hospital to continue functioning during construction. The purchase of an adjoining property allowed expansion of parking facilities and reorganisation of traffic movement to ease congestion, plus the enclosure of an existing unsightly sub-station to create a 'sign post' and project the new image of the hospital.
This new image or 'house style' involved graphic and interior design which was applied throughout the hospital's refurbishment to create a revitalised contemporary environment. The existing mansion on the adjoining property was converted and refurbished to form a new Physiotherapy Department with reception facilities and Executive Offices.
Following refurbishment of the bedroom wings, phased development continued with conversions to provide CT Scanner and Endoscopy Suites. Demolition of an underused wing created space for a new X-Ray and Imaging Department. Concurrent with the construction of this department, the Outpatients Department was extended, new Inpatient and OutPatients Receptions provided and a prototype bedroom with en suite facilities was constructed. The phased construction programme, which commenced in the Spring of 1997, was finally concluded at the beginning of 2000.
