Container Design by Clearcell Multimedia
John Harvard's meeting house
bishopbriggs, glasgow

The Client called for the conversion of a former supermarket to form a friendly Anglo-American bar/restaurant with broad appeal.

The volume of the building was broken down to create intimate spaces and large areas of concrete ground floor slab were removed to allow easier access to the basement and provide greater spatial interest. Each space has its own distinct character and ambience, which reflects the range of moods and desires of the customer.

Stylistically the bar reflects the traditional qualities of New England with an emphasis on craft and woodwork. Specific materials include original exposed brickwork and steelwork, including rust! Other materials used included distressed timber, crackle effect specialist painterwork and lacquered mild steel. Topical trouve abounds and this successful café bar captures the spirit of the "Shaker" style creating a memorable traditional interior with an unusual contemporary twist.
