Nicoll Russell Studios are one of the largest Architectural and Interior Design Practices in Scotland, with an enviably broad range of expertise. Formed in 1982 the practice has been fortunate to work on most types of projects over its twenty year history.

Although the practice is well known for its Civic, Theatre, Licensed Leisure and Civil Engineering projects, the Studios depth of experience goes far beyond these sectors to include everything from Private Houses to major Private Hospitals.

Indeed the Studios' actively maintain an open attitude to all projects as they arise. We see a fresh challenge in each project, whether the project is big or small, highly prestigious or seemingly anonymous.

Ultimately we seek to build a sound working relationship with the Client, in order to develop a design which more than meets his or her requirements and the needs of the actual people who will use the building.

We feel that our understanding of these fundamental issues can only be established by sound, rational research. Our work is always developed from such a firm foundation, allowing our acknowledged creativity to formulate appropriate solutions for each individual Client. This may result in simple, pragmatic solutions when required or more esoteric creations where a more flamboyant approach is appropriate.

All of these considerations are tempered by the available budget and the Client's programme requirements. We always seek to adopt a responsible role in the firm but supportive management of our projects and understand that it is imperative to rigorously define, plan and control the Client's budget throughout the course of the project.

We recognise that each project is special to its Client, so we provide a personal service with the Practice's six partners, adopting an active and hands on role within each project team.

Our base in Dundee allows us easy access to projects throughout Scotland and with excellent services from both Edinburgh and Dundee Airports, to projects much further away.

Nicoll Russell Studios have obviously completed and continue to carry out many projects within the Tayside area. But the Studios are very outward looking and have also built up an international portfolio of work with projects ranging from the Western Isles, through Glasgow; Edinburgh; West Midlands and London to several projects in the Republic of Ireland; Albufeira, Portugal; and Sydney, Australia.

The Studios are committed to providing an ever-improving service. We have a fully computerised drawing office with powerful technical, specification and 3D visualisation capabilities. Our management of specific projects is guided by sophisticated accounting and resource management software, which monitors project by project performance and increases our overall effectiveness.

Nicoll Russell Studios promote a strong team culture within the practice, our staff are widely experienced and are backed up by a rolling programme of CPD events. Nicoll Russell Studios are one of only a limited number of Architects practices registered with the RIAS as accredited Investors in People.
